PUBLIC MEETING

NOTICE OF THE SARASOTA COUNTY CANVASSING BOARD AND THE CANVASSING OF ABSENTEE BALLOTS FOR THE NOVEMBER 6, 2007 SARASOTA COUNTY SPECIAL REFERENDA, CITY OF SARASOTA SPECIAL AND CITY OF VENICE GENERAL ELECTIONS

Sealed absentee ballots for the November 6, 2007, Sarasota County Special Referenda, City of Sarasota Special, and City of Venice General elections received prior to Monday, November 5, will be available for public inspection from 8:00 a.m. until 9:00 a.m. on Monday, November 5, 2007, at the office of the Supervisor of Elections, 2001 Adams Lane, Sarasota, Florida.
 
The Sarasota County Canvassing Board will meet at noon Monday, November 5, 2007, at the office of the Supervisor of Elections, 2001 Adams Lane, Sarasota, Florida, to conduct the initial canvass of absentee ballots. Immediately thereafter, the canvassed absentee ballots will be processed. Tabulation of all absentee ballots will not begin until after 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 6, 2007.

On election day, November 6, 2007, sealed absentee ballots received between November 5 and the morning of November 6, 2007, will be available for public inspection from 11:00 a.m. until noon at the office of the Supervisor of Elections. Absentee ballots received in the afternoon until 7:00 p.m. on election day will be available for public inspection until opened. Immediately thereafter, the absentee ballots will be prepared for processing. The Canvassing Board will reconvene at 5:30 p.m. election day to canvass the remainder of the absentee ballots and election results from the precincts. The Board will reconvene at 4:00 p.m. on Friday November 9, 2007, to canvass provisional ballots and will remain in session until the results of the election are certified.

In accordance with the Sunshine Law of Florida, all Canvassing Board meetings are open to the public.

Note:  §286.0105, Florida Statutes, states that if a person decides to appeal any decision by a board, agency, or commission with respect to any matter considered at a meeting or hearing, he or she will need a record of the proceedings, and that, for such purpose, he or she may need to ensure that a verbatim record of the proceedings is made, which record includes the testimony and evidence upon which the appeal is to be based.
