PUBLIC MEETING OF THE SARASOTA COUNTY CANVASSING BOARD AND CANVASS OF THE ABSENTEE BALLOTS FOR THE AUGUST 31, 2004 PRIMARY ELECTION CHARTER AMENDMENT SPECIAL ELECTION

Sealed absentee ballots received prior to 8:00 a.m., Friday, August 27, for the primary and charter amendment special elections will be available for public inspection from 8:00 a.m. until 8:30 a.m. on Friday, August 27, 2004, at the office of the Supervisor of Elections, 2001 Adams Lane, Sarasota, Florida.

The Sarasota County Canvassing Board will meet at 8:30 a.m., Friday, August 27, 2004, to canvass absentee ballots. Immediately thereafter, the canvassed absentee ballots will be opened and processed but not tabulated.

On Monday, August 30, 2004, sealed absentee ballots received August 27 through August 30 will be available for public inspection from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m.

The Sarasota County Canvassing Board will meet at 12:00 p.m., Monday, August 30, 2004, to canvass absentee ballots received from August 27, 2004, forward. Immediately thereafter, the canvassed absentee ballots will be opened and processed.

On Election Day, August 31, 2004, sealed absentee ballots received on August 30 and August 31, 2004, will be available for public inspection from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

The Sarasota County Canvassing Board will convene at 6:30 p.m. August 31 and will remain in session until the results of the election are obtained. Provisional ballots will be canvassed as received from polling locations.

If the provisional ballot canvass is not completed, the Sarasota County Canvassing Board will reconvene at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 1, 2004, at the office of the Supervisor of Elections.

In accordance with the Sunshine Law of Florida, all Canvassing Board meetings are open to the public.

Note: §286.0105, Florida Statutes, states that if a person decides to appeal any decision by a board, agency, or commission with respect to any matter considered at a meeting or hearing, he or she will need a record of the proceedings, and that, for such purpose, he or she may need to ensure that a verbatim record of the proceedings is made, which record includes the testimony and evidence upon which the appeal is to be based.
