August
31 primary features contests for all voters
(SARASOTA, Fl, Aug 2, 2004) – The
August 31 primary ballot will include several nonpartisan and Universal
Primary Contests in which all voters, regardless of party affiliation,
may vote.
Supervisor of Elections Kathy Dent reminds all registered voters that
they may vote for one of four Republican candidates running for Sheriff,
one of two Republican candidates running for the Hospital Board at Large
Seat 1, and one of two Republicans running for Hospital Board at Large
Seat 3 in the three Universal Primary Contests on the ballot.
The Florida Constitution provides that if all candidates for an office
have the same party affiliation and the winner will have no opposition
in the general election, all qualified electors may vote in the primary
for that office. The candidate with the most votes in each race in the
primary is the winner.
All registered voters will also be able to vote in three nonpartisan
contests for Circuit Judge Twelfth Circuit, County Judge, and School
Board and on 10 Sarasota County Charter amendments.
An Official Sample Ballot will be mailed the second week in August to
each registered voter in Sarasota County. Voters who have questions
may contact the supervisor of elections office at 861-8600.
