Public invited to attend logic and accuracy testing and canvass of absentee ballots (SARASOTA, FL) - Supervisor of Elections Kathy Dent invites the public to observe the logic and accuracy testing of the county’s voting and tabulating equipment to be used in the January 29, 2008 Presidential Preference Primary Election (PPP). The testing is scheduled for Wednesday, January 9, 2008, at 8:00 a.m. at the office of the supervisor of elections in the Terrace Building, 2001 Adams Lane, Sarasota, Florida. Florida law requires the supervisor of elections to conduct a public test of the county’s voting and tabulation equipment prior to each election to ensure that it is operating and recording accurately. Logic and accuracy testing is performed on a random sampling of all the voting machines that will be fielded on election day. Testing of the reporting software is also conducted prior to every election. The public is also invited to observe the canvassing of absentee ballots. The Canvassing Board for the January 29 Presidential Preference Primary is scheduled to meet on Wednesday, January 23, 2008, at 8:30 a.m. for the initial absentee ballot canvass. The board will reconvene on Monday, January 28 at 12:30 p.m. and again on Tuesday, January 29 at 4 p.m. for the final absentee ballot canvass. The board will convene again on February 1 at 4 p.m. for the canvass of provisional ballots and on February 8 at 3 p.m. for the canvass of overseas absentee ballots. All Canvassing Board meetings will be held at the SOE office at 2001 Adams Lane, Sarasota. Members of the public may inspect unopened absentee ballots prior to the start of each Canvassing Board meeting. | |||
