ELECTIONS OFFICE CHALLENGED BY TAX COLLECTIONS OFFICE FOR GOOD CAUSE
Barbara Ford-Coates, Tax Collector, and her staff have challenged Kathy Dent, Supervisor of Elections, and her staff to raise money for Prevent Blindness Florida in the June 30, 2001 Light the Night for Sight Walk-A-Thon.
The Walk-A-Thon will be held at Sarasota Jungle Gardens in the evening against a backdrop of a gradually darkening sky to simulate the darkness experienced by people who, because of accident or disease, lose their eye sight.
The challenge was issued on Tuesday, May 22, at an Elections Office meeting by Coleen Coleman and Cheryl Dunn representing the Tax Collector’s Office.
Bobby Walker has been selected to be captain for the Elections Office team which will be appropriately called Walker’s Walkers.
Both offices promise a lively and spirited campaign to get sponsors and collect pledges for Prevent Blindness Florida’s good work.
Prevent Blindness Florida conducts vision screening and provides professional referrel and follow up services for both children and adultsat risk for becoming blind. According to Prevent Blindness Florida, nearly half of all blindness is preventable. The money raised in conjunction with the Light the Night for Sight Walk-A-Thon as well as the donations made by citizens of Sarasota County who choose to make a gift to Prevent Blindness Florida each year when they renew their vehicle registration will go a long way in helping the organization improve the quality of life for many of our neighbors and friends locally.
