Pine View Senior Class Wins $2500

Supervisor of Elections Kathy Dent will present the Pine View School senior class with a $2500 cash award on Saturday, December 2. The award is for Pine View's commendable response to the student poll worker challenge issued by Ms. Dent to all Sarasota County high schools last September. Twenty-four Pine View students (the highest number of students as a percent of the total senior enrollment) worked at the polls in the General Election on Nov. 7, 2006.

Other schools participating in the challenge included North Port High School, which recruited 25 students, Venice High School 21 students, Riverview 16, Cyesis 5, Sarasota Military Academy 4, and Booker and Sarasota high schools 1 each.

The Pine View senior class is allocating the money to its senior legacy project. The project, a Habitat for Humanity house, is located on Allendale Street, across from Tuttle Elementary School.

Ms. Dent will make the presentation at the Habitat house at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday.
