PUBLIC MEETING NOTICE OF THE SARASOTA COUNTY CANVASSING BOARD AND THE CANVASSING OF THE ABSENTEE BALLOTS FOR THE NOVEMBER 7, 2006, GENERAL, SPECIAL AND MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS

Sealed absentee ballots for the November 7, 2006, General, Special and Municipal elections received prior to Friday, November 3, 2006, will be available for public inspection from 8:00 a.m. until 9:00 a.m. Friday, November 3, 2006, at the office of the Supervisor of Elections, 2001 Adams Lane, Sarasota, Florida. Immediately thereafter, the absentee ballots will be prepared for processing.

The Sarasota County Canvassing Board will meet at noon Friday, November 3, 2006, at the office of the Supervisor of Elections to conduct the initial canvass of absentee ballots. Immediately thereafter, canvassed absentee ballots will be processed but not tabulated. If needed, the Canvassing Board will reconvene on Saturday November 4 and Sunday November 5.

On Monday November 6, 2006, sealed absentee ballots, received between November 3, 2006, and the morning of November 6, 2006, will be available for public inspection from 8:00 a.m. until 9:00 a.m. at the office of the Supervisor of Elections, 2001 Adams Lane, Sarasota, Florida. Immediately thereafter, the absentee ballots will be prepared for processing.

The Sarasota County Canvassing Board will reconvene at noon on Monday, November 6, 2006, at the office of the Supervisor of Elections for canvassing of the absentee ballots. Immediately thereafter, canvassed absentee ballots will be processed but not tabulated.

On Election Day, November 7, 2006, sealed absentee ballots received between noon November 6 and the morning of November 7, 2006, will be available for public inspection from 11:00 a.m. until noon at the office of the Supervisor of Elections. Absentee ballots received in the afternoon until 7:00 p.m. on Election Day will be available for public inspection until opened. Immediately thereafter, the absentee ballots will be prepared for processing. The Canvassing Board will reconvene at 6:00 p.m. Election Day to canvass the remainder of the absentee ballots and election results from the precincts.

The Board will reconvene at 4:00 p.m. Monday, November 13, 2006, to canvass provisional ballots. It will reconvene again at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, November 17, 2006, to canvass the military and overseas ballots and will remain in session until the results of the election are certified.

In accordance with the Sunshine Law of Florida, all Canvassing Board meetings are open to the public.

Note: §286.0105, Florida Statutes, states that if a person decides to appeal any decision by a board, agency, or commission with respect to any matter considered at a meeting or hearing, he or she will need a record of the proceedings, and that, for such purpose, he or she may need to ensure that a verbatim record of the proceedings is made, which record includes the testimony and evidence upon which the appeal is to be based.
