Public invited to inspect sealed absentee ballots

(SARASOTA, FL, August 23, 2006) - Supervisor of Elections Kathy Dent invites the public to inspect sealed absentee ballots received for the Primary and the City of North Port Primary on Friday, September 1, 2006, from 8:00 a.m. until 9:00 a.m. On Election Day, Tuesday September 5, 2006, sealed absentee ballots will be available for public inspection from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon at the office of the Supervisor of Elections. Sealed absentee ballots received in the afternoon until 7:00 p.m.on Election Day will be available for inspection until opened.

The Sarasota County Canvassing Board will meet Friday, September 1, 2006, at 12:00 noon at the office of the Supervisor of Elections, 2001 Adams Lane to conduct the initial canvass of absentee ballots. The Canvassing Board will reconvene to canvass absentee ballots on Election Day, September 5, 2006, at 12:00 noon and again at 6:30 p.m. The Board will reconvene again on Friday, September 8, 2006, at 4:00 p.m. to canvass provisional ballots and will remain in session until the results of the election are certified.
