PUBLIC MEETING NOTICE CANVASS OF ABSENTEE BALLOTS FOR THE SEPTEMBER 5, 2006 PRIMARY AND CITY OF NORTH PORT ELECTIONS Sealed absentee ballots for the September 5, 2006, Primary and City of North Port elections received prior to Friday September 1, 2006, will be available for public inspection from 8:00 a.m. until 9:00 a.m. Friday, September 1, 2006, at the office of the Supervisor of Elections, 2001 Adams Lane, Sarasota, Florida. Immediately thereafter, the absentee ballots will be prepared for canvassing. The Sarasota County Canvassing Board will meet at 12:00 noon Friday, September 1, 2006, at the office of the Supervisor of Elections to conduct the initial canvass of absentee ballots. Immediately thereafter, canvassed absentee ballots will be processed but not tabulated. Tabulation of all absentee ballots will not begin until after 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 5, 2006. On Election Day, September 5, 2006, sealed absentee ballots received between September 1, 2006, and the morning of September 5, 2006, will be available for public inspection from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon at the office of the Supervisor of Elections. The Canvassing Board will then meet at 12:00 noon to canvass those ballots. Immediately thereafter, the canvassed absentee ballots will be opened and processed but not tabulated. Absentee ballots received in the afternoon until 7:00 p.m. on Election Day will be available for public inspection until opened. The Canvassing Board will reconvene at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, September 5, 2006, to canvass the remainder of the absentee ballots and election results from the precincts. It will reconvene again at 4:00 p.m. Friday, September 8, 2006, to canvass provisional ballots and will remain in session until the results of the election are certified. In accordance with the Sunshine Law of Florida, all Canvassing Board meetings are open to the public. Note: §286.0105, Florida Statutes, states that if a person decides to appeal any decision by a board, agency, or commission with respect to any matter considered at a meeting or hearing, he or she will need a record of the proceedings, and that, for such purpose, he or she may need to ensure that a verbatim record of the proceedings is made, which record includes the testimony and evidence upon which the appeal is to be based.
