Supervisor of Elections to Begin Mailing Absentee Ballots August 1 (Sarasota, FL, July 27, 2006) - The Sarasota County supervisor of elections office will begin mailing absentee ballots for the September 5 primary election to military and overseas voters on August 1. All other absentee ballots will be mailed from August 2 through September 1. Under Florida law, a request for a ballot to be mailed must be received by the supervisor of elections no later than 5 p.m. on the 6th day before the election, and all absentee ballots must be mailed by the supervisor no later than four days before the election. Supervisor of Elections Kathy Dent reminds voters that marked absentee ballots must be returned to her office by 7 p.m. on election day, Tuesday, September 5, to be counted. A sample ballot will be mailed to every registered voter on Monday, August 7. Ms. Dent encourages voters to review their sample ballots, mark their choices on the handy summary section and then clip it out and take it with them when they go to vote. She also recommends voters confirm the locations of polling places by checking the list of locations on the sample ballot. Several polling locations have changed since the last election. Early voting will be available from August 21 through September 3 at all Supervisor of Elections offices, the North County, Gulf Gate, and Fruitville libraries, and North Port City Hall. Early voting hours are 8:30a.m.-4:30p.m. Monday-Friday, 9a.m.-1p.m. Saturdays, and 1-5 p.m. Sundays. Voters must present a photo and signature ID when they vote or will be required to vote a provisional ballot. | |||
