Supervisor of elections launches SARASOTA, FL, February 21, 2006 - Supervisor of Elections Kathy Dent today announced the start of a countywide voter education and registration program designed to give all Sarasota county citizens ample opportunity to register to vote and update their voter records prior to the fall 2006 primary and general elections. The program is part of the statewide voter awareness campaign, which features special activities throughout 2006 to encourage Floridians to register and update their voter records, volunteer as poll workers and vote in the primary and general elections. Earlier today, Ms. Dent attended a press conference in Hillsborough County, one of several held simultaneously in the state's major media markets and in Tallahassee, to launch the GOTV campaign. Ms. Dent said that her office will be cooperating with major county employers, schools, local merchants, and places of worship in the coming months to ensure that all eligible Sarasota residents have the opportunity to register to vote in the fall elections. "We all have a stake in a successful election process," Ms. Dent said. "My hope is that by working together in the community, we can raise public awareness about the importance of being involved in the process and being informed about the candidates and issues that will be on the ballots in these very important elections," she said. GOTV Activities include:
Ms. Dent invites all county employers, schools (including colleges, universities, technical and high schools), local merchants, and houses of worship that would like to participate in the "get out the vote" campaign to contact the elections office at 861-8610 for more information. | |||
