Florida Community College Student Government Association Students across the state take action (Tampa, Fla. – Oct. 30. 2007) - More than 200 Student Government Association leaders from across the state will gather in Tampa Friday to share strategies and information on how to reach their goal of registering 100,000 voters by July 2008. Kathy Dent, supervisor of elections for Sarasota County and president of the Florida State Association of Supervisors of Elections, will speak to the assembly at 10 a.m. Nov. 2, at the Sheridan Suites Tampa Airport, 4400 W. Cypress St. “I think it’s wonderful that students are getting involved like this,’’ Dent said. “It shows that they care about things that affect more than their generation. They care about their country.” FJCCSGA President Kevin Letourneau said he supports the community service project 100 percent. “This community service project could be used for more than just registering students and individuals, but also informing them about the policy and procedures that are associated with voting.” “It is fitting that on our 50th anniversary we want to make a change on how we as students are represented,’’ said DeeDee Desir, FJCCSGA’s state community service chair and a Palm Beach Community College student. “We, the younger generation, will take a stand as a voting generation. College students will show up at the polls at the general election and FJCCSGA will make sure it happens.” Media contact:
